Barrett began his martial arts training in 1986 as a student of Taekwondo in Ewa Beach, Hawaii with the Unified Taekwondo Federation. Moved to Coweta, OK in the summer of 1991 and continued his training in Broken Arrow, OK under the United States Taekwondo Federation.

In 1992 Barrett started training in Coweta, OK at the Riddle Hall Community center with Impact Taekwondo founder Joel Scrivner. Barrett graduated from Coweta High School in 1995 and continued training with Impact Taekwondo and also started cross-training in other arts such as Japanese Jiu Jitsu, Aikido, and American Kickboxing.

In 1997 Barrett was a member of the USA Team that traveled to Young In University in Seoul, South Korea to train with their national Taekwondo Team.

In 1998 Barrett became the owner and Chief Instructor of Impact Taekwondo. – It was during this time that Barrett began to show an interest in Mixed Martial Arts and eventually made his Amateur MMA debut in 2001. Eventually, in the Fall of 2006, Barrett made his Professional MMA debut in Tulsa, OK under the King of the Cage organization. It was also during this time that Barrett began to start his training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

In 2007 Barrett formed a fight team in association with what was now called Impact Martial Arts…and he called it Team Impact and began his MMA training program.

It was in 2009 that Barrett met Logan Cunningham, who began training with Barrett and eventually became Barrett’s Muay Thai instructor. It would be in 2014 that Cunningham would also become Barrett’s official Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructor as well. Barrett continued to fight as a professional MMA competitor and in 2016 won the Xtreme Fight League’s 145 lb Pro MMA title which is based out of Tulsa, OK and is headed by fight legend Dale “Apollo” Cook. Unfortunately, Barrett’s MMA career also came to an end in 2016 due to a retina injury.

Throughout the years Barrett had operated the Impact school name…first in Coweta, then to Broken Arrow, eventually to Bixby and finally returning to Coweta, OK in 2021 where he is today. Mark Barrett lives in Broken Arrow and works in Coweta with DDURT Construction. He is married to his wife Leslie and has three children.
